Our Story
Hiya, thank you for checking us out and taking the time to find out more about us. When I say us, I really mean me (Well mostly me, with technical some help from my husband and social media help from my children).
THE BACK STORY
Just like everyone else during 2020/21, I spent alot of time in my home. Looking around I realised that as Black British born Woman my home decor didn’t really reflect my African and Caribbean culture and in the way that I wanted it to. Now, I love abit of Swedish high street home decor (Naming no names… obviously) as much as the next person, however I wanted some items with abit more character, abit more culture and abit more soul.
Never one to shy away from a paint brush and a spirit level, I decided to combine our love for all things colourful with my love for crafting and DIY and ta dah ….
Home Sweet Soul was born.
We set out making our own wallpaper, up-cycling our furniture with vinyl wraps and making our own cushion embellishments and haven’t looked back.
CORE VALUES
As a family run business, at our core we are about community and giving back.
Our items are mainly manufactured in-house or in partnership with local designers and businesses. Our aim is to increase our collaborations with ‘minority’ designers and manufacturers so that as Home sweet Soul grows, we all grow.
We are firm believers in ‘waste not, want not’, so as much of our packaging as possible is recyclable. We also give regular tips on how to re-purpose our packaging around the home and inspirational ideas on how to use our items in inventive ways to get the most out of them.
THE FUTURE
We would really like to create a community of like minded colourful people who love abit of up-cycling and DIY so please fell free to connect with us on our socials. You can also join our email list to be the first to know out our community group and patreon subscription when they are up and running.
We really hope you enjoy our items as much as we enjoy creating them.
At Home Sweet Soul we are doing our best to share the Culture, Colour and Community ideals of the African Diaspora through home decor in every home.
……. Final stop – World Domination Mwah ha ha !
